Our History
In May of 2009 members of the Cosmopolitan Golf Club banded together to insure continued and perpetual support of youth development. The "Golfers Youth Foundation" was founded as a non-profit public benefit corporation and officially designated as a 501(c)(3) organization in November of 2009. The program was created to establish a legacy for the education of tomorrow's leaders by providing under privileged youth with mentoring, to enrich their lives socially, to increase access to education by providing scholarships and to provide a life (ENDEAVOR) vocation for eligible students.
Who We Are
The Golfers Youth Foundation (GYF) is a non-profit organization focused on identifying at risk low-income African American youth and providing them with both academic and character building opportunities. GYF uses a combination of mentors, academic intervention, scholarships, and the game of golf to teach critical life skills to at risk youth
What We Do
Working closely with administrators and guidance counselors in South Central Los Angeles high schools GYF identifies young African American men and women with academic potential who face financial and or social challenges to their continued success. Through a network of community volunteers and engaged Board members, GYF employs a number of strategies to support its mission such as:
The GYF Student Mentoring program - GYF and community volunteers are paired with high potential but at-risks youth to serve as mentors in development of academic skills, character building and general self esteem.
The Game of Golf - GYF engages our targeted youth with the game of golf as a tool to teach critical life skills and positive interaction with the community at large.
The GYF Scholarship Fund - Financial awards to local high school students with academic potential and interested in attending post secondary educational institutions. Click the link below for additional requirements and to submit an application.
